It's

quiet at this time of year but as the season kicks off, latest news and updates to the site will be headlined in this column. The link above is a very interesting thread about international selection criteria - well worth a read for any budding international anglers.

The Chairmans Chat 2010

We are about to start the new season and I thought that I would give you a few words on the coming year.  Last year saw us in a bit of turmoil with the leaving of our long standing Captain who has left the Army for new adventures.  Under his tenure the Soldier Palmers became an extremely successful team respected and feared by other fishing teams; I wish him and his family every good fortune in the future.

The aim of this year will be development of the AAF(G) by focusing on improving as many members as possible through an ethos of inclusion, cohesion and a fierce competitive edge against other teams.  The main effort is to win the Inter Services and all of the other fishing we do must contribute to this.  There have been divisions within our discipline in the past and I want to remind you all that the Committee is working hard on your behalf to build the Soldier Palmers (that is all of us) into the club that it should be.  If you are not contributing to that then ask yourself why?  I also remind you that we are an Army Federation and the values and standards apply to all of us all of the time; we are in the public eye when we fish and must uphold the standards expected of us and therefore the reputation of the Army.

We need to recruit as many new members as possible this year and ask all of you to try and “bring a friend” along.  Once you have brought them along then we need to ensure that we create the conditions for them to remain members and this links directly to the ethos of the Soldier Palmers.  We have some new ideas developing, that will be discussed at the AGM during the Spring Match (which we will use as a development weekend), so please come along and drag a fishing friend with you.

We will make more use of the Website for communication as this will ease the burden on those who run the club on your behalf.  Please help us to make things work for you.  If you have concerns with developments or the path we are taking do not take it out on those trying to arrange your fishing but address them to the Secretary or me; that is what we are here for.

I am confident that the Soldier Palmers will go from strength to strength with all of us pulling in the right direction.  I look forward to seeing you all on the water at some stage this year. Tight lines

Bob
