Sparkler Booby

The Sparkler Booby; A great fly early and late in the season will probably make an appearance on most anglers casts during the season. I like to use this on fast sink lines and retrieved at speed.

I like to pre-tie and trim my booby eyes every one has a different way of doing this, I have tried most of them but prefer this one.

Cast the thread onto the hook you can use any number of hooks Kamasan B160 or B175 to name but a few everyone has their own prefrence. In this version I am using white tying thread.

Tie in the tail as shown and trim the tail to the desired length.

Attach three or four strands of sparkle in at the tail. You can use other body materials again it is down to personal choice.

Bring the strands up keeping it tight and touching turns so that the body is completely covered.

Tying in the wing can be very difficult, I find the best way is to trim so that it is neat place the wing up past the eye then wrap the tying thread a couple of times round then pull the wing up so it is behind the eye of the hook.

Make the head as tight as you can in preparation for the eyes going on. Unless you’re Jock Kettles you might want to trim the wing so it fits within the fly gauge.

I always turn the fly to face me and lash the eyes on in a figure of eight motion, after initially getting the eyes on I put some dubbing on the thread in this case glister and go over it again finishing with a half hitch.

Super glue in-between the eyes and over the glister dubbing when this dries it becomes solid remember to clean the eye of the hook when wet, it is quite difficult when dry.

The end result a durable fly that will last through several fish.
