Joining The Fed

To join or not??

By C. Pennington

If you are not a member of the Federation what can you expect? Well being on my first full season as a member this is what I have found from personal experience.
Friendship, lots of that and a sense of belonging, great deals on your equipment and help on any fishing matters whether that be what setup to fish, how to fish or even where is my casting going wrong. You can also expect help on tying your fly’s whether that is a specific problem you are having or which you should be tying for a certain situation.
There is also a great sense of you are not on your own, if you are on leave and fancy a day out all you need to do is post on the forum and 9times out of 10 you will have a boat partner organised within a couple of days, remembering so long as there is no completion or practice on that day you can book fed tickets and all you will be paying for is boat hire, do this a couple of times a season and all of a sudden you have saved the membership fees.
Still not sure about joining well bearing in mind I have only fished a couple of days last season and the first match this year, you will be fishing with Scottish and English internationals what better experience can you have in the boat next to you passing on little snippets of information?
It’s these little snippets of info that, in 4 or 5 outings have massively improved my game from being a fair fisherman into someone who is confident and comfortable in what I’m doing and able to hold my own when it comes to competitions. I recently took part in my local trout masters fish off and came second by just a couple of ounces when some of the other competitors didn’t finish or just simply gave up. I know if it had not been for the fed, what I have learned and the experience I have gained, I to would not have finished or I would have been allot lower down the standings.
So what’s the next step for me? Well it will be to continue improving and hopefully get my first army cap. What’s the next step for you? Go to the contact section drop the federation a quick email and get fishing.
Hopefully this has made your mind up on whether you should join or not and I hope to see you on the water very soon.
Tight lines,
                 Col

Four of our members are involved in International events this year. Congratulations to Andy Croucher, Paul Kitchen (England) and Jock Kettles (Scotland) on their Loch  Style Caps. Also for the first time in the clubs history we have a member of the English National Rivers team in our ranks, well done Graham Lumsden.
